O.K. how do I become "trail ready"? Besides having gear that works for me and callused feet?

It is a category with no real meaning. I think the break point is 5 posts. Welcome to the madness.

I think in the future we should tell folks that they have to buy all the beer at Pickle Gulch in order to be considered "Trail Ready"

Well, just to buck the trend and give a serious answer...we around my house have taken to spending several weeks before a pack trip lugging a pack around, full of tents or water or whatever. That allows our bodies to get used to carrying a pack.

The girls are certainly more "trail ready" than me at this time.

I think he was referring to that title under his name. It was "New Member" until his 5th post. No serious answer needed. Actually, I thought he had undergone some sort of genital transplant, and was going to offer him condolences over whatever had taken his old member. Well, just to buck the trend and give a serious answer.

Drive to a trailhead and put your pack on. This. Trail ready. Folks get into trouble when they decide to go super-ambitious, having never done it before. But putting a pack on and walking down the trail isn't all that complicated, despite how much we talk about it here. Take it easy the first time and you'll be fine. The rest you learn as you go. Ask questions here when you want, as they come up.

It takes just five posts here to become trail ready? Geez! I wonder if that would do magical things to my knees?

Hey Packdad, good to see you back. Still in Texas? Hi lostone Thanks for remembering me. :-) I is good to be back. So many old folks still around. And unfortunately a few that have past. I have relocated to the smokies. Got tired of the heat in houston and needed the mountains to heal. Life has thrown me some curses. Blessed to still be around. Life is good.
