Happens every year. I don't change my diet or exercise routine, yet I quickly gain 10 lbs or more. It stays throughout the winter then I slowly lose it during the spring.
As of this morning, 7 lbs over the past 5 days.
Does this happen to anyone else (for no good reason)?

The endo f summer weight gain? Yes, it has happened to me over the last few years. This year though, by going along with my wife as she a Crossfit nutrition challange, It's not even been a week and I have lost weight! It is still early in the challenge, I am hoping the results continue.

I gain my weight in the Summer. It sucks. Last year I lost almost ten pounds in one week. Then over the course of the past year I put it all back on plus some. Now I struggle to get it all off. :/

I gain over the winter most years, but more slowly. Usually it's because the weather cuts into my longest/hardest workouts (can't do a 50 or 60-mile ride if it rains all weekend. Well, I suppose I could, but I won't). Added to that is that cooler weather makes me want to drink hot cocoa and curl up with a book. And that leads to snacking...
I managed to lose a good 5 lbs this summer backpacking (and then jumping right into training for a Century ride), and so far it hasn't come back, but my training has dropped off a lot, so I'm going to have to really watch it.

I quit trying to workout to loose weight. I found it is less frustrating to workout to better form my shape, round. I find that if and when I loose weight it is an added bonus.

I gain a few pounds in the fall and winter. It seems most closely tied to increased business travel or groups of all-day meetings, especially when I don't prepare my own food. I've had three weeks in a row that had 2-4 all-day meetings on the road during which I gained a pound and a half. I'm up three pounds from my summer fitness peak. It's time to get serious before the holidays.

Yeah, I'm a sucker for the coffee and pastries given away at too many meetings. I think it's a hangover from my Starving Student days, when free calories were never, ever, to be passed up! Okay, plus I like pastries way too much.

This AM I got to thinking about how I have lost 6 pounds by participating with my wife's Crossfit challange. My thought is if I know I gain weight during this time of the year, why not change my eating habits to curtail the weight gain?

I think it happens to everyone at some level. I've ready your body actually holds on to some weight when the weather gets colder. Plus, you're naturally less active, more likely to sit and drink a warm beverage in the evening (and of course, have a little bite with it), etc.

why not change my eating habits to curtail the weight gain? Cuz we don't want to! A few years ago I got home from a long backpacking trip lean, ripped, and wanting to stay that way. I happened to attend a class on goal setting which said goals need to be something people notice and impact your life for the better to be achievable. Since I lost the gig as an underwear model, nobody notices if I'm 175# or 185#. I have to either be really disciplined and hungry or carry a backpack 6 hours a day to be 175#, but I can be 185# without extra effort or being really careful about what I eat. Thanks for the reminder. I better go for a run now.

I'm happy to report, I am still losing weight. So many years of struggling with my weight and I only needed to change my eating habits.
The exercise is just the perk that keeps me feeling good, while toning my muscles.

We'll see about December.

I've ready your body actually holds on to some weight when the weather gets colder. I think this is true; perhaps it's an old instinct for self preservation from when our ancestors lived in caves, long before we became so accustomed to central heating (which I love!). I've also wondered sometimes if I'm not related to bears because I enjoy hibernating in the winter...mug of hot chocolate, good book, warm quilt, especially during blizzards.

An update... after gaining those 7 lbs in one week, I haven't gained (or lost) another pound.
