Welcome from another plodder. I like that term; I think a Plodder category for us older folks might be a good idea.

I'm pretty much of a plodder too, but it's still hiking.
Our son works for Xanterra at The Canyon and recently got a promotion. He's now the Assistant Rooms Director which is over all the rooms that Xanterra has there. We're quite proud of him and his family. We go there twice a year, Christmas and late spring.

I plod as well. I like to stop and smell the flowers, take pictures and generally enjoy the hike.

We've only had dinner at Phantom Ranch, as far as Xanterra is concerned, but they seem to do a good job. It was great to have a meal down there that you know was hauled in by mules, and talk to happy people from all over the world around your table. It's great you get to go a few times a year, starwalker. We have actually considered moving to N. Az. to be closer. I'm very happy to find fellow plodders. When 20 somethings blow by me in running shoes I get a little discouraged. Somehow we still make it from river to rim in one day. A few weeks ago, we went up the Hell Brook Trail on Mt. Mansfield in Vt. and we were by far the oldest on the trail. We even made it harder by bushwhacking up the side of a waterfall. If slow gets it done- so be it. I'm liking this place more and more. Us plodders can hang together. Slow makes for better memories!

I like to stop and smell the flowers, take pictures and generally enjoy the hike. Me, too. I can enjoy just sitting for hours in the same spot, seeing something different when I turn even for just a little bit. I could spend hours doing that and still not see everything there is to see, or see the site as a different demension just by moving a few feet and looking from a different angle. And then there's the mind wandering aspect...when I think how I could adapt something to my own yard (on a much smaller scale, of course), I end up in a reverie that continues until I suddenly realize it's getting dark, or cold, or rainy.

Plodding is good: being out there is the key so why rush? Imho
