I'm not sure posting a trip report in the Trip Reports section is worth it (seems not many people look here), but I'll give it a shot anyway
Thursday I met up with a couple of friends in Crested Butte, CO, for a 2 night backpacking trip to Copper Lake. Before we headed out, we had a nice lunch and spent several minutes watching a bear in a tree, right in the middle of town. Fortunately, there was a Division of Wildlife guy keeping people away from the tree. The bear was very healthy looking (fat) so I think it must be a regular visitor to the garbage cans of local restaurants.
We left the "bear viewing area" and headed to the trailhead. Since we got a late start, we backpacked in 3-4 miles and stayed the night. No one else was there, so it was wonderful!
Hiking in (I'm on the right with the gray pack)
We arrived at Copper Lake around noon, just as the rain rolled in. It rained steadily until around 9:00 p.m., so there was a lot of tent time. When you are backpacking, you just have to go with whatever Mother Nature throws at you.
The next morning the skies were blue with only a few little clouds floating around - absolutely beautiful!
My little tent kept me dry through the relentless rain
There's nothing better than spending a couple of nights in the backcountry with good friends!

Beautiful! That's some grand territory. The bear shot is cool too. Regarding the low traffic in this part of the forums, it's a shame. I consider trip reports to be the most valuable part of a hiking forum, and having them scattered in the Trailhead Register is not the way to go, at least for me. I hope people make the Trip Reports forum the place to frequent, by contributing.

That was the first night on the Crested Butte to Aspen trip several years ago. Nice place. Bill and Kathy, Steve P. and then my friend Dee and myself.

Beautiful pictures, thanks for the report. I'm with Galiwalker, this forum is a great resource, and just fun to see what others are up to, especially when I'm stranded in 100 degree Texas heat!
