Hi everyone,
I'm an aspiring hiker and I'm looking forward to spending extended periods of time up mountains and the like. The only problem is... the sun. I'm not sure if I'm exactly allergic but I know that sun cream doesn't agree with me, what tips are there for covering up while hiking? I've thought of gloves and a wide-brim hat. Anything else?
Many thanks

Hi, @hikeroli ! You've got the right idea for a start--add long sleeves and long pants, of course (lightweight, loose-fitting fabrics make it so you don't cook inside the clothes. I have a friend who has to be super careful of the sun due to meds she takes. She gets shirts, especially, in fabric with an SPF factor of 50, and has a sort of wimple-like veil thing she wears with her hats to be sure neck and ears are fully covered.
I'd still go hunting for a sun block you can tolerate, because there's really no way to keep your nose out of the sun all the time! Have you tried the kind that are physical barriers, like zinc?

Long sleeves, long pants. Broad brimmed hat. Bandana as required to cover up whatever is left out in the sun. For instance, reflections off the snow or water will burn the underside of your nose.
What types of sun cream have you tried? There is a clear zinc oxide out now that helps many who can't wear the regular lotions.
Funny. The two most likely to be sun burnt answer at the same time! rebeccad

This may sound weird, but my mom has the same issue and swears that applying aloe vera gel before going out in the sun helps prevent the rash she always gets from being in the sun. I can't say it will work for you, but it's worth a try.

Unfortunately, the models I wear don't seem currently available, but I wear a Coolibar thing on my head under my wide-brimmed hat. It can be adjusted to cover everything but the eyes. I also wear sun gloves.

Looking at your photo, I think that's a lot like what my friend has. She has one specifically meant for wearing under her bike helmet, too.
