Looking for a daily news source for outdoor news. This is obviously a pretty broad brush, but something along the lines of public lands & management, outdoor recreation, and maybe some gear or industry news. I used to read trailspace, but they've moved more toward gear reviews and industry news.
Is there such a place?

Go to Google News and type in "backpacking" in the search box. Choose "Backpacking News" and you'll get backpacking related articles. Fortunately, our local paper has an outdoors reporter that keeps up on places and events around town, state and county.

I also use the forums. The members are very knowledgeable about trail conditions, weather, parking, ect.

I think that would be considered the method rather than the source.

This forum. 14ers.com is great for Colorado. Ozark Trail Association has good info on the Ozark Trail conditions.
High Country News has always been a fun read. Outside Magazine occasionally gas some quality journalism when it's not pandering to commercialization of outdoor experiences. LiveOutdoors.com has some good stuff. Seeker.com too.

I aggregate news via Twitter and Facebook subscriptions/following of various parks, national forests, land agencies, federal departments and local agencies such as Calfire, Inyo sherrifs, Caltrans, Inciweb etc. Management issues often get highlighted by the department or unit effected. Then the various parks I'm interested all have their own management webpages, but breaking news often occurs from their social media. Like Sequoia getting approval for their high country amphibian recovery program getting announced in Twitter. With links to the planning documents. Various industry accounts are also present as well as people such as Andrew Skurka etc. Like here:

I like this site: mountainwestnews.orgHigh Country News is another good source; it's not necessarily a daily, though. The Missoulian newspaper is a good daily with a lot of coverage on the outdoors, the environment, wildlife and public lands. Adventure Journal has an excellent website. I like their Facebook site, too. Happy Trails, RS +1 Locally I use The Seattle Times and Peninsula Daily News. Rumi
