Howdy folks! I've been a backpacker for a while but just discovered this forum so I thought I'd check things out. I live in Fort Collins, CO and currently get in about one really good backpacking adventure per summer (having two small kids, I consider even that an accomplishment...) Here's a picture from the last one, looking back at the Missouri Lakes Valley from Missouri Lakes Pass in the Holy Cross Wilderness (CO). I'm hoping to pick up a few tips and some major motivation from this site!

Greetings. I am headed your way from Chicago on Thursday. My BFF lives in FoCo, and we are headed to the Rawah for 3 nights. Should be grand!
Love the shot of MO Lakes. We spent a lot of time in Summit Co before he moved to FoCo. We did Commanche two years ago.

Right on man! The Rawahs are at the top of my list for places I haven't backpacked. Almost went there this year actually. I'd be interested to hear where you guys went and how it was when you get back. The weather is unseasonably warm still at least until Monday/Tuesday. Of course, it will be cold up there but could be worse this time of year. I was just up in Poudre Canyon last weekend and it was just beautiful.

Hi there, @focodude06! You'll find a pretty large'ish CO contingent here.
I live between Boulder and Golden up Coal Creek Canyon.
We also hold a gathering up at Pickle Gulch Group Campground off Peak to Peak Highway every Sept. This year is already past, but you and the family are more than welcome to join us next year.
Welcome to the forums!

Welcome, @focodude06 ! We are always happy to have more hikers hanging out here. You just need to answer a few questions, regarding your opinions on kilts bacon beets brussels sprouts
Also, feel free to poke around in places like the Hiking with Kids section to get some ideas for getting the whole family out there!

Howdy, welcome aboard !! !!
I've been living here in Ft Collins (Don't EVER shorten it to "FoCo") since 1972.
I've lost track of how many trips I've made to the Rawah's....or RMNP/Indian Peaks...Snowy Range...Comanche Wilderness... etc.. That's just the 1% tip of a very huge iceberg available within a 4 hr drive.
Enjoy your opportunities !

I love Fort Collins every day of the year aside from the Border War. Seriously, one of the great small cities of the world you have there. I lived in the Colorado Springs area and La Veta for a lot of years. Welcome and have a blast.

Wow, thanks for the warm welcome! You guys picked some excellent intro topics:
kilts - pretty badass (though I've never worn one personally) bacon - I'm an addict beets - most underrated vegetable brussels sprouts - possibly the second most underrated vegetable butter vs. pam - this is an interesting one. I'm going butter 98% of the time. With scrambled eggs, butter doesn't seem to coat the pan as well. Also, there is a butter "flavored" pam that is so gross it makes me want to throw up.
I hope these answers don't lead to my complete ostracism from the group. Ha ha!
msdoolittle - that sounds like a really cool meetup!
Swimswithtrout - awesome that you have gotten to do that much exploring of this area. One day I hope to be able to claim the same thing.
absarokanaut - Border War this weekend!
Thanks everybody.

Welcome from Texas. I wish I could say I live in CO -- I love to visit, though!
