He calls himself a "people walker." It showed him walking with them along busy streets, neighborhoods, trails, etc. I was in shock that people would pay someone to walk with them! I swear I responded to this, but I must not have hit "post." I can actually think of cases where people would want/need this. Not so much for going hiking like we-all do, but older folks or ill ones who need a companion to walk safely, or someone who just wants to make the sort of commitment that will force them to go for their walks. Of course, also works for those who are just scared, rightly or wrongly, to be out alone on streets or trails.

My dad and stepmother frequently mall walk. Not everyone has some one to do this with. Several years ago I was walking to my gate in DFW and saw an older woman and her husband on the motorized walkway. She had no clue the walkway was ending. She took a bad head plant when the walkway ended. Her husband was useless

Nice rebeccad, especially regarding older folks. My dad and stepmother frequently mall walk. Not everyone has some one to do this with. I thought about that because of my Mom's struggles to get herself to go out for a walk, as she usually has no one to walk with (hoping that's changing as she has moved into a retirement home, where I hope there are some others who'd like to get a spot of exercise).

We now have to pay someone to walk with my Mom. She moved into the more intense Alzheimer's unit of assisted living, and the biggest difference between this and where she was before is that she's now on lockdown--she can't leave her "house" unaccompanied. She was in the habit of walking every day, and that's one of the few things that brings her joy anymore. I can't get there every day (especially since Mom now retires insanely early in the evening), and they aren't staffed to provide that service, so we pay a companion to walk with her indoors or outdoors every afternoon as the weather dictates. It seems crazy with what we pay for her care that we have to pay someone above and beyond that for such a basic things but that's how it goes.
