Woman Breaks World Speed Record by Riding a Bicycle at 147 Mph
With reduced drag from a lead car and an insane gear ratio, you can really get going just by pedaling.
Project Speed
By Jay Bennett
Sep 13, 2016 American cyclist Denise Mueller recently set a new woman's bicycle land speed record of 147 mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. She rode just inches behind a modified Land Rover SRV that served as a pace car and used a tail fairing to shield Mueller from wind resistance while she made her run.link

Towed up to 90mph, then behind a fairing. Interesting, but not impressive. The hour record is more impressive, at least to me.
On the other hand, a crash could result in some serious road rash. I've picked bits of road out of my skin, but never salt.

On the other hand, a crash could result in some serious road rash. First thing I thought of too. Next thing was that those wheels must really be balanced well. And then there's this little gem: The bike's drive train uses two 60-tooth chainrings in a double-reduction configuration to provide a massive amount of torqueThe writer obviously doesn't know much about cycling.....or mechanical physics.

I saw that too. It's true... in the reverse (i.e. if you were turning the rear wheel by hand, you'd have a massive amount of torque at the pedals).
