I saw art by all three today at Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa. If you're ever in the area, you owe yourself a couple of hours in this museum. Gilcrease home page

Cool. Looks like a fun museum to visit.
I have to admit I am ambivalent about Bierstadt. Love the vision, what came to symbolize the West to so many Americans. But I hate the fact that he doesn't have a single painting that is anything close to an accurate portrayal of what he was painting...the always added details, changed foregrounds, etc.

Years ago, there was a traveling exhibit of Moran paintings that were displayed at Gilcrease. Of course the exhibit included all of the Moran paintings that Gilcrease owns in addition to the traveling pieces. It's my understanding that was the only time all three of Moran's biggest and most famous paintings hung together, as he intended, in the same room.
Apparently Thomas Gilcrease designed that huge room around the Moran paintings and no other museum had the appropriate space for all three. At least that was the story they told us.
Gilcrease Museum is certainly worth more than a couple of hours.

That Moran exhibit was a great exhibit. I believe the Deborah, my wife and I went together to a mask exhibit there while Deborah was still in Tulsa.
