A good friend of mine is a pilot and is certified for float planes. We always dreamed about flying to Alaska and camping on a remote mountain lake and staying a few nights and then fly on to another destination. A puddle jumping tour of sorts. So I guess my question is, can you suggest a website or someone to ask whether that is allowed? Can you land anywhere in the park lakes or any wilderness area and wild camp on any piece of land you find suitable? where would I look to find info on that kind of thing? thanks for your suggestions. mike

Which park? Are you familiar with where you are going? edit: I'd suggest you call some of the local flight services and pick their brains. Do you intend to rent a float plane? Refueling could be an issue and very expensive. edit2: When are you going? Reserving forest service cabins would be a good way to do it. Check out the USFS web site for AK cabin rentals. alaskacenters.gov/cabins.cfm

Thank you so much for that. We have no idea where to even start so I will check out the USFS website.

Also, you might want to contact the NPS if that is where you want to go once you get sorted out.

Good grief ... access to your own plane? Wow!!! Four words ... Gates of the Arctic.
My wife & I have been there twice trying to time the southern caribou migration through the Brooks Range that happens during August & September. One of the few places that had me dreaming of a career change to a bush pilot.
