Hi everyone. Since I know that a lot of you don't frequent the Trip Reports/Storytelling forum, I wanted to give y'all a heads up on a trip I just recently came back from. I normally have my pride and don't advertise run of the mill trip reports I write in there, but this is one I think will interest at least some of you. Also, the report is way too long for me to reproduce/cross-post here. The trip was my second one to Pakistan's incomparable Karakorams range - which feature the finest mountain scenery on the planet - to a place called Snow Lake, a 30 sq mile wide and 1mi deep bowl of ice, elevation ~16,000ft, surrounded by the most spectacular mountains one will ever see, and from which flow a slew of glaciers. I skimmed through this thread late last night, planning to spend much more time later. I can attest to the stunning beauty of the photos and the excellent narrative. In fact, I went to bed last night with visions of some of the photos lulling me to sleep.
Definitely plan to spend some time on Galiwalker's trip report thread, especially if you need a refreshing break. I forgot all about the problems of the world when I vicariously put myself in his footsteps.

I assume you're a professional photographer. Do you work in conjunction with Nat Geo magazine? I think there's also a great potential for a documentary - I'd love to see a video of this area. It would provide a perspective of Pakistan other than a military/political one. We don't really see the natural beauty of countries that we fight with.
I was wondering also if you had to get any special permissions from Pakistan to hike there, or was that taken care of by the tour guide company?

No, I'm not a professional photographer (that would have to be a full time job, if I wanted to make it pay).
Procurement of all permits and trekking fees were handled by the trekking company, although we had to register at various points on the drive over, and check-out on the way back. There was a camp waste disposal fee that we had to pay when we entered Central Karakoram National Park, which was unexpected (there was some dispute about whether it applied for the Snow Lake route, which is why the company had not prepaid it), but we were reimbursed for it afterwards.
