Lida Summit Adventure "We saw the petroglyphs" Chapter I Magruder Mountain We started climbing the Excelsior Mountains. We saw the petroglyphs. Later we hiked around Powell Canyon Spring.
We continued exploring Nevada, Orchard Spring was next. Nearby is Boundary Peak, quite a challenge, and quite an impressive sight, and nearby is Montgomery City, in California, a ghost town. A dozen stone walls can easily be seen. In 1989 I visited Lida Summit for the first time. Later I climbed Magruder Mountain.
We climbed it twice, reaching the highest peak on the second try. But, was it the highest peak? It was, it is an illusion! A very difficult one to explain, but explain I will. The peak is relatively steep, but the nearby peaks are rather level. Trust me!
Palmetto Mountain stands as sentinel to the north. Magruder Mountain is to the south... We climbed part way up Palmetto Mountain to get a better view of Magruder Mountain. Magruder Mountain looked different.
Route 266 goes through the pass, Lida Summit. John C. Fremont went by here many years ago!!! The pass has a special name, but I couldn't remember it at the time I wrote this!!
So here is what I have written so far!
