Meteor showers are one of my favorite things to try to capture. Last week I went out on 3 separate nights to observe and photograph the Perseids. Wyoming has plenty of great places to watch with dark skies. This was the morning of August 10th, at Lake DeSmet. 3:42 AM Meteor by Kevin Palmer, on Flickr On August 11th I drove 4 hours west up to Beartooth Lake at 9,000 feet. I had originally planned to go somewhere else, but I changed my plans trying to avoid clouds. It was still very cloudy at sunset and there was an active wildfire 7 miles away. But by the time the moon set at 1AM, it was beautifully clear. In 4 hours I counted 250 meteors, making it the best meteor shower I've ever seen. My camera pointing northwest captured 93 of them, which I combined into this composite. Night of the Falling Stars by Kevin Palmer, on Flickr I had a 2nd camera pointed southeast. The green color is airglow. They Come in Pairs by Kevin Palmer, on Flickr The next day I found a dispersed campsite at almost 10,000 feet in the Bighorn Mountains. I was way too tired to watch, but my camera took pictures while I slept. There was quite a bit of rain, but a couple hours of clear skies in between. The video is awesome !! That must be some unique software to transform the static meteor shots you took, into the appearance of a video "trail". Again, thanks for posting your results at both forums
