The ACT looks fantastic. Spring or fall for me. Now where's that bucket list?

Sorry if this sounds a little fishy. But my dream hike is the one I keep to myself pending its fulfillment. That may sound a little funny, but I feel that it could follow the "wish-upon-a-star" phenomenon. If I divulge the contents of the wish, that limits the likelihood of it coming true. Superstitious? I don't really think so. It may simply be the way my mind works.
As long as the wish/dream remains my own, I'll contemplate, plan, and work on the details daily. But once I begin talking about it, I've held it up for someone else's considerations or approval. Is it realistic? Am I serious? Don't I think I'm too old for that? and so on.
So I don't care to dilute the potency of the entire vision of it all. That is to say, yes, I have a dream hike, but it's not really open to description right now. I like it the way it is: just my own.

Echo is in Newc. Might run into her if you go to town. Look for 2 red-headed adults. He will be wearing tie-dye or Sponge bob.

Coincidentally I was down that way helping my dad earlier today. He still lives around there. But I probably won't be back for a while. My usual bad timing, I guess.

You're the one who planted the seed, my friend.

I keep dreaming about hiking around the property we're buying. We close in a few days, I think. My hiking and camping trips may be limited this year due to buying a new property and selling our current one. But I really don't have a specific bucket list hike in mind anyway. When it does materialize it will be as much about how long I can stay out as where it is.

When I retire in 4 years I will hike the John Muir Trail. I've got the maps and have started with the planning phase. Can't wait.

Use every resupply point you can afford. N-S allows you to get your legs conditioned before hitting Whitney. Unless you are a stickler for details, start in Tuolumne Meadows and after walking out at Whitney, you can do the TM to YV portion. in 4 years I will hike the John Muir Trail

Thanks for the tips Zeke. A friend is hiking the JMT with me and we had already decided on the North - South route. We also plan to start around the first of August with not set date for reaching Mt. Whitney.

I did a dream hike in 2004 in Glacier National Park. I went with a group of folks from these Forums. We dubbed ourselves "The Glacier Gang." It was without a doubt the trip of a lifetime for me - great folks, great scenery, great time! It was my first trip to Glacier and I fell in love with it. I have been back once since then and plan to go again in late August 2016. I want to go to Glacier too. So many trails, so little time. LG saw his nephrologist yesterday. Come to find out his nephrologist is a backpacker. He's headed to Glacier soon.

Jay, using the term "hike", you may be meaning just movement along a trail or route or more broadly a "hiking adventure" or "backpacking trip".
Generally for this person unlike the majority of backcountry users, it is about destinations and not journeys (hikes). I do realise many enjoy hiking on trails or along routes absorbing views and experiencing environments as they move along and for them that may be the primary focus of their activity. Thus that may also be what they dream about when thinking about and planning their adventures. That noted, while some outside of campsite time may spend almost all their day times on trails and routes in the backcountry, others for example may divide their time between hiking and other activities like fishing, peak bagging, animal observation, and in my case photography. So for say some fisherman "the dream" is not going to be about the hiking at all. In fact while trudging up a steep trail with a heavy pack, his mind may be daydreaming about casting into that destination lake while looking downward on the trail, little noticing much outside where to step.

Brownmouse, I am planning to go back to Glacier in August 2016. I'll car camp and day hike. The #1 hike on my list is the Highline Trail from Logan Pass to the lower parking area on Going to the Sun Road (~11 miles).
