Hey there. Just wondering what everyone prefers and why. I'm between picking up a tiny portable gas grill, or perhaps a propane stove (grilling vs pan essentially). I'm going to be using it for a week and I'm torn between which would be the better option. Any thoughts? Looking at these two as examples.

How many people are you cooking for and what do you intend to cook? Personally, I would go with a stove over a grill.

I'm just cooking for two. I like just about everything really when it comes to food, so the stove will sort of dictate what I cook. I do have a nice cast iron skillet that would work quite well on the Everest stove. It does seem to be the more sensible option.

I own a couple of Camp Chef stoves. 2 big burners and they stand up at working height without taking up space on the picnic table. Takes a full sized propane tank, though.

Stove offers control and flexibility. If you want a campfire save it for the esthetics rather than morning coffee.... IMHO.
I've a Coleman two burner propane, easy. Which is how I like it out there even car camping. Just not into fussing with food when there's flowers to photo and birds to not identify.

I use both, sometimes. Trusty, old Coleman Camp Stove for boiling water-based meals and making pancakes, bacon. Grill for fish, if I catch any.

Stove. Most car-camping spots will involve a campfire that'll let you open-fire grill and use a dutch oven. The stove makes for a complete kitchen. The Everest is a nice stove -- I keep putting it in my shopping 'cart' at every REI sale but my 30 year-old Coleman stove refuses to die...
If you get the grill, I bet you'll end up getting a stove eventually as well.

When we "car camp" and have a few people to feed I like the discadas. I made a 20" out of an old plow disc and have it seasoned pretty well and with a turkey fryer base they cook well and fast. I'll make up our fajita meat and veggies prior to leaving home and just dump on the discadas when time for dinner. For breakfast I'll put eggs in a milk jug along with onions and peppers then mix with the jug closed. Keep the jug in the cooler and just pour out enough egg once we figure who all wants breakfast. Not the lightest but a quick way to feed 10-15 folks.

Thanks guys. It sounds like the way to go is going to be the stove. I went ahead and ordered the Campchef as I've used one in the past and it worked really, really well. That thing puts off some heat! Now I just need some recipes. So, a discada is essentially a wok? I have one of those...that's a pretty good idea. I've been craving some fajitas anyway. The Everest is a nice stove -- I keep putting it in my shopping 'cart' at every REI sale This has been me for a while now! But, now I'm committed. Wish me luck!

I bring three different ones (Charcoal, Propane Gas, and White gas). Depending on what I'm cooking, or where I want to hang out, I grab a stove. Often, I will have two of the stoves going. On occasion, all three.
