I did a search and couldn't find where this has been addressed before, forgive me if it's already been posted, but I wanted to see if others had any tips and tricks for camping in very warm/hot weather?
Here in Florida our typical camping season doesn't start until sometime around October, however my 8 year old has mentioned that for his birthday next month (September) he really wants me to take him tent camping in the backcountry. Every time I've camped in the summer here I've said "never again", however I don't want to discourage his enthusiasm for spending time outdoors and I'm willing to tough it out. The best case scenario would be a good breeze and/or rain shower to cool things off a bit. Worse case scenario would be 91 degrees at 10PM with 80% humidity.
I have a few options available (will probably travel via canoe or small sailboat), but will most likely lean towards a destination with a spring nearby so we can find some cool water to swim in.
I have learned a few tricks over the years to make sleeping in warm and humid conditions more bearable, but wanted to see if others have anything else to add to the list. A few things I've learned...
Anything I'm missing? I'd love to hear what works for others.

- An open tent with good airflow is a must!
- A cot helps. A hammock would be better, but he's not comfortable with that yet.
- If possible, go for a swim just before heading to bed
- Stay hydrated
- Loose fitting, breathable clothing
- Small battery operated fan blowing in my face.
- Leave the sleeping bags at home, a light sheet will work fine (with a blanket on standby in the unlikely event things cool off by early morning)
- When all else fails, Rum! (For me of course)
