It's a typical midatlantic summer - hot and humid. Temps in the 80s and 90s (Farenheit) with high humidity. Lately it's been even worse - temps in the 90s to near 100 with high humidity. A: Why, you buy a 15F/-10C bag, that's what! Plan for better days! Jack Frost nipping at your nose. Or toes. Or whatever. When a 5 hour hike is refreshing, maybe even exhilarating, as opposed to a 2 hour hike which is currently a steamy, sweat-soaked slog of self-inflicted torture. Western Mountaineering Badger. I belive that markskor , currently on assignment in Tuolumne Meadows, has one. I think it has less loft than my FF Osprey Nano 30F bag, however. I vaguely remember the Osprey being spec'd with 8" and the Badger with 6". The down of the Badger is sewn in two layers to keep it from moving around.

What to do? Head for the mountains where it's cooler!

I'd call that an Eqyptian mummy bag!

I like your style, Reuben! We are in the swampy Mid-Atlantic too and it's pretty brutal. We have been buying gear and planning some fall trips, but I think both of us are starting to have real wilderness withdrawal symptoms!

What do you do in this weather? Don't move. Relax with a cold beverage instead of physical exertion.

I've been doing my local hikes at night. It's less brutally hot, but the humidity is awful. Even the gym was ridiculous yesterday. The AC was set at 65F, but the thermostat was reading 80F and it was humid enough that dew was forming on the floor.

Yup - this is hibernation season for me - in the air conditioning, researching fall and winter trips

Come visit the Olympic Peninsula. Weather here is great!
But buying gear is always a nice thing, mentally.

Reuben is optimistic that winter will one day arrive! I, on the other hand, am not so sure.

Considering that last year we had the A/C on for Thanksgiving and December 26, I have little faith that we'll see a long, cool fall and winter anytime soon. I suspect our weather pattern has permanently shifted and we will continue to see shorter, warmer winters and longer, hotter summers. I've lost track of how many years lately have been in the top ten for warmest on record.

Come visit the Olympic Peninsula. Weather here is great! It's on the "Someday List". We made it to the Oregon coast last year, but my wife doesn't BP. Still, it was a good trip. We're booked for Madagascar next month. Highs around 70, lows around 50, depending on location. Not great, but much better than my current local weather. My wife will probably think it's chilly there. The good news is that when we get back we'll be entering "Reuben's Season". I love fall.

Reuben is optimistic that winter will one day arrive! I, on the other hand, am not so sure. You're a tad tetched in the head right now. Not thinking straight what with the latest deluge. Maybe another batch of out-of-date chocolate will help.
