Went to the Adirondack High Peaks. We climbed the following mountains: Haystack, Basin, and Saddleback. We backpacked and camped at Slant Rock. I hoped to do the entire Great Range, but including Haystack took too much time and we ran low on water. The climb up Basin was very steep with some long scrambles, once at the top, a family with two little girls, both with backpacks, arrived. The girls were great kids as they seemed to skip around on the summit and it was hard to believe how they could manage the terrain. Kids are far stronger than we realize. The climb up Saddleback involved an exposed cliff that required us to remove our packs. The scenery was great as was the weather. There were hardly any bugs. We were tempted to climb the cable route up Gothics, but decided to save it for another day. Soon thereafter, I ran out of water. I've been to the top of 19 high peaks. Backpacking through the high peaks is pretty tough.
I camped at Lewey Lake campground with a site right on the water. I listened to loons through the night.
The next day I met Dan and we climbed up Snowy Mountain, the highest in the southern Dacks. It was a great hike with excellent views at the top, including from a firetower. Always great to return to the Adirondacks.

They're worth the trip, one of my favorite places to hike in the country. There is significant wilderness, alpine areas, countless lakes, waterfalls and rugged terrain.

I like the range of clouds and ranges of blues to whites in the skies. The path photo is especially appealing - conveys a sense of coolness. Nice photos; thanks for sharing.

Nice TR and photos. That one pick of going up the rock looks like 4th class or harder.

Agree-on all counts. I don't think I'd like that rock face.
