It is full of trail dust (despite a vigorous shaking) and has some tree sap on it. I don't want to compromise the waterproofing. Suggestions? I also have an Enlightened quilt that has a fine coating of dust on it despite shaking it out. Ideas welcome.

You can set up the tent in the yard and spray it off with a hose, then hang carefully to dry (or just leave set up, though you'll have to tilt to make sure the bottom gets dry). For the sap...leave it. If it's sticky, dust on a bit of cornstarch or something.
The quilt can be washed, in a large front-loader, if needed. But you might try just tumbling it in the dryer a while with a slightly damp towel. Blowing the air through it might be enough to get the dust out.

A little alcohol can remove sap without damaging waterproofing. Technu (yep, the stuff for poison oak) was originally an attempt at a product to remove sap -- try that.
I would use a wet wipe on the quilt.

As for the dust on the tent... when I was about to send my tent in for repair, I was asked to remove the guy lines and put the tent through the washing machine on cold, no detergent, on a low agitation short cycle, to remove all the dirt so it wouldn't jam the sewing machine.

I would only do that on a front loader. On a top loader, even low agitation can be more stressful than I'd like. The most aggressive cleaning I ever do on a tent is with a hose and sponge. For sap, I've used mineral spirits on a silnylon tent. I'd hesitate to use anything on a PU-coated tent. I rub trail dust or some other inoffensive substance into whatever sap won't come off, to prevent sticking together when repacking.

I'm with Big Load.
I shot a quick video on tent maintenance :
some type of dust cannot be removed by hose alone so you need to use soapy water (use pure soap NOT detergent) and a sponge or cloth.
Sometimes that needs to be done more than once to get the dust off.
