I will be hiking Northbound on the Long Trail / AT in Vermont in September.
Just North of Story Spring Shelter, the trail crosses Forest Service Road 71. Does anyone know if there's any parking there or if the road is passable by a non-4WD vehicle?
I know that I can park at Kelley Stand a few miles further up the trail, but I will have already put in a long day and would appreciate saving a few miles.
Any help appreciated. Thanks, Steve

It's been awhile since I've been down that way, but I do believe it was open to cars. I walked by there years ago and seem to remember the road looked okay. Here's a Google image of the intersection of Forest Road 71 and Stratton arlington Road. It even looks like there is a small parking area. If you want to get the full story, you may want to call the Forest Service Manchester Office at (802) 362-2307. I hope this helps. As I mentioned, I'm better acquainted with the northern half of the LT, so someone else may have better first-hand knowledge to assist you.
