Thanks for all the replies. This has been a big change of lifestyle for me. I am very much a "cup is half full" type of person and I am now enjoying my new freedom.
While I feel very sad and still cry off and on, I never felt a bit depressed over all this. I guess the four months since we got the word on April 12, was enough time for both of us to know what to expect would be coming. But I really expected Tom to have at least a year since April, so I am surprised it happened so suddenly.
I am glad Tommy suffered so little, if at all, thanks to Morphine and Hospice, in his last days.

I know I'd said I'm sorry in another thread somewhere, but I am glad to know that you seem to be handling it well. I am sorry for the loss, Don.

Thanks or the replies & concern. It's now been seven days. I somehow survived a full week without Tom.

I, too, am sorry to hear of your loss. 42 years is amazing, I can't even imagine!

I am glad Tommy suffered so little, if at all, thanks to Morphine and Hospice, in his last days. There is some comfort in that. Dad said (of morphine) "there's a reason they make that. This is exactly the time to use it." Hospice is staffed by some wonderful folks.

Just saw this now. Sorry to hear of your loss. It's especially hard to lose a spouse.

I'm very sorry for your loss. Thanks for your concern. I somehow survived almost two months now without Tom, after 42 years--most of our lives together. Needless to say, I still think about it all every day. I doubt if that will ever end. -Don- SSF, CA

So sorry to hear that. Know that this community is thinking of you. You seem to be handling it well but as my friend who lost his wife several years ago said, "you never get over it, you just learn to live with it." Maybe that's the best any of us can hope for. Be strong.

Don, I just now stumbled on a link to this thread. My most heartfelt condolences on your loss. I wish I could write something that would provide a measure of comfort. FWIW, I'm confident your loss will not be forever. I'm convinced you two will be reunited again. This parting is but a temporary one.

Thanks for the reply. It's been a little over six months now and still hard to get used to. I never stop thinking about the good times we had together. 42 years of it.
BTW, today (Feb 17) would have been Tommy's 64th birthday.
