Our trip began on Tuesday, July 12, 2016. Matthew drove. We first stopped at Safeway to buy ice and gas. We drove north on I-5 to I-80 and onto Sparks. We relaxed in our motel. I ordered room service for a whopping $ 9.17, a delicious chocolate cream pie. We both slept in Queen beds, with lots of pillows. We got on our way and saw the Friends of Nevada Wilderness office and I took a picture. We also stopped at Mark Fore & Strike and I bought a 30X60 map. On we drove to the south, and we may have found Carters Springs. Our drive to Bodie was rather jarring, but not much. Mono Lake was magical. We arrived at June Lake and stayed at the June Lake Villager motel. Next day we drove south. Matthew was having super issues of driving fast and we were stopped as we entered Bishop. A $76 dollar fine. We reached Big Pine and off we were to Glacier Lodge. These are beautiful mountains. We headed back to Big Pine and headed south to Independence and to Onion Valley another beautiful place. Back to Independence and to Manzanar, then Lone Pine and Whitney Portal. That night our Best Western motel was incredible. The next day was the best. We drove north to the Montgomery Pass area. We hiked to Orchard Spring. The map was a disaster. I could see the spring from the road. We met several wild horses and I think I can get some good pictures from my camera. I was tired, in fact it was almost like my walk up route 266 to Lida Summit in 1996. No water at the base of the spring. I was too tired to hike much further. But I got my second wind coming back. The roads, what a disaster. Boundary Peak was spectacular. So it was to Lida Summit. We got there. Back to Dyer, we ate salads. Then we totally retraced our steps, wow. At the Super 8 in Bishop there was a big problem. The internet was out. They still don’t have it fixed (July 25, 2016.) Next day we drove to Mammoth Lakes, but there were so many people we decided to forget the plan to visit the Devil’s Postpile and Rainbow Falls. What a headache. We drove into Nevada by route 182 and 338. We drove to Monitor Pass. We arrived in Carson City. Our motel was fancy, but not expensive. Next day we headed north to Route 431 to Mount Rose Summit and onto Lake Tahoe. We were stop and go for 30 minutes, finally we took route 89 to Truckee. It was back to Stockton.
