I haven't read it yet, but am getting ready to. I can tell you, though, that this was one of my favorite day hikes of my life.

I laughed when you said you didn't see the dinosaur tracks. Our son worked there for a number of years, as we did in the summers for 6 years and led a number of hikes through the Subway of the Lodge employees. I went once. We stopped just before it was time to climb out and he said, "I never did see the dinosaur tracks," and I said, "you mean those on the rocks behind you." I just happened to see them. I did the same thing to him in Hidden Canyon. He said, "I wonder where the arch is," and I said, "you mean the arch behind you?" It is always fun to get ahead of your kid. By the way, he's now at the Grand Canyon.

LOL. Next time, we will bring you along, you have the gift! We put the coordinates in our InReach, but obviously it's only accurate to a certain degree and we just didn't find them. I think we were both ready to keep moving at that point too, and not spend too much time looking. It really was a beautiful hike, and if the water hadn't been SO DARN COLD I'd be pushing to do it again soon.
Sounds like your son is living the dream, I'm jealous!

Skimmed through the photos; will read the narrative later. The photos are stunning - it's such a dramatic place, so many facets and geological constructs. I definitely will have more thoughts after reading your narrative.

Nice narrative, and nice pictures. I hadn't realized that is a technical route. I knew it was very challenging, but thought it was a tough hike. Probably puts it out of our reach--we have no gear or experience for the rappels.

The rappels are pretty straightforward, but if you don't have experience, you could easily do it with a guide. Some people handline it, but that seems really irresponsible and too dangerous for our taste! I'd rather take the time to rope in and have all the safety precautions that offers.

Nice TR and photos. Thanks. Batmanning is not as irresponsible as it seems. Done it many times. But keeping your comfort level is most important.
