I will be high in the Wallowa Mountains in mid august and last time I was there I got a pretty decent sunburn on my shoulders from my thin white t shirt that normally protects me on hikes. I am buying this long sleeved shirt with 50 UPF rating, but I know that the color of a garment can have an impact on sun protecting factors or how hot you get etc. Would you go with the Beige/Brown color or the Blue? In the actual link the two colors are "Atmosphere" and "Oregano" Any input on what colors or fabrics work best in high elevation sun would be appreciated. Thanks! www.rei.com/product/862927/rei-sahara-tech-long-sleeve-shirt-mens

Those are great shirts, but you picked the two darkest colors. Any of the lighter colors will absorb less solar energy.

Agree with bigload. Darker colors are good for when you need to have the clothes dry out in the sun in a hurry. But in hot weather the lighter colors are better.

Lighter colors will also make you less attractive to mosquitoes.

I'd probably go with "Seattle Mist" or "Zinc" (sound like stripper names) to reflect the sunlight better.
When mosquitoes are thick they've never cared what color I was wearing.

toejam I'd ask you how you know what a stripper name sounds like, but instead I'll tell a humorous story.
2 men walk through a department store where the clerk sprays the first guy with a perfume. He exclaims, "Hey! Don't spray me with that stuff! My wife will think I've been in a whore house!"
Second guy says, "You can spray me. My wife won't recognize it."

I don't get the joke, but I appreciate the effort. I hate it when that happens. Explaining a joke's punchline means it lost something in the telling.
Second guy was saying his wife wouldn't know what a whore house smelled like, implying the first guy's wife knew the smell because of previous experience.
