Greetings,
Quick intro -- currently working on my graduate degree in New England, but hail from CA originally. I missed the open spaces once I moved East, so decided to take on backpacking, and haven't looked back since (except to catch a glimpse of the view!) This past year I've hit up Joshua Tree, the Ozarks, Acadia, Grand Teton, Yellowstone and Glacier, as well as various places around the Pacific Northwest and New England. On my to-do list are the Utah parks, Alaska and Patagonia.
When not outdoors, I enjoy watching college football with my chocolate lab, and picking the m&m's out of trail mix.
Thanks in advance for any and all contributions to my posts and others!

Welcome from me as well. You're in an area that I've always found fascinating - the history alone would make living in NE an interesting experience. Do you backpack in NE, despite not having the open spaces of the West? If so, please share photos....well, please share photos one way or the other! We love photos of trips.

New England, despite its size, is far more diverse than many places much larger, both geographically, and historically. So saying "greetings from New England" is like saying "greetings from the entire midwest", but even more so. Long way to say, "which state in NE?" Oh yeah, and welcome!

Hi there, Yes, I have backpacked some in New England. Love the Whites. Did Mount Washington with a few friends last Labor Day, and it was one of the coolest places I've been. We really lucked out with the weather (the mountain is notorious for its volatility, due to its position at the intersection of various jet streams. See: Why Mt. Washington Kills) The clouds cast shadows all across the valley floors, and it was really stunning from the top. Maine also has some great places -- Baxter and Acadia in particular. Rangeley Lakes is very remote, but the vistas are beautiful, and it's less crowded than Acadia. It is hard to beat autumn in New England! There are some good places in New York as well. So, no shortage of options. I wouldn't say the views are as majestic, in general, as the West, but the above mentioned are certainly exceptions. And, hiking among the foliage in the fall really is an experience. You'll have to come visit us sometime!

Yeah, I miss the fall foliage and having four seasons in CO and AR. Here in SoCal we have two seasons, fire season and mud slide season.

Weclome from PA.
Some folks here might have interest in your opinions on a few odds and ends. Perhaps you could weigh in on beets, bacon, brussel sprouts, pam vs. butter, beer, and kilts.

I was evacuated during the 2003 & 2007 wildfires in SoCal, so I can definitely relate. Was 108º at my folks' place yesterday! Hopefully you've either a coastline or pool nearby...
