I own a Duplex and find the weight, of my Duplex, of 1.29 (tent stakes and guy lines)pounds to be a joy to carry. I also find the Duplex to be roomy, even when sharing the tent with my wife. My wife and I can fit all of our gear inside the tent. I am only 5'11" and when I lay down there is still a good portion of space between my head and feet to the end of the tent.
The Duplex is made so the tent bathtub floor does not touch the side sloping walls. The bathtub floor is attached to the non-angled walls. The space between the bathtub floor and the angled walls is filled in with mesh, which allows built up condensaton to travel down the angle walls and through the mesh to the outside. The gap between the angled walls and the bathtub floor is 4 inches.
The design feature of not attaching the bathtub floor to the tent angled walls, actually, works. On several occasions we closed the tent up, for wind and cold protection. When we woke in the AM I was able to observe how the built up condensation had rolled down the tent angled walls, through the mesh, and to the outside; instead of raining down on us. Most of the time, leaving one vestibule door open and proper tent site selection suffices to eliminate condensation.
Not using a ground cloth has been the hardest thing for me to get use too. We do take a short bit of time to remove pine cones, sticks, and sharp rocks before pitching the tent. We could drop the tent weight further by using titanium stakes *shrug*.
Side wall tension, in the duplex, is not tied to zipper door tension. With other tents, I have owned, the door zipper comes under tension when the zipper is closed. Over time, for me, this has caused the door zipper to fail at some point in the life of the tent. I do not see this as being an issue with the Duplex design.
The Duplex has done well in windy conditions.
Currnetly, the Duplex comes with a freestanding option.
So far the ZPacks Duplex works great, till it doesn't.
