Hello all: So this is a little embarrassing, but I'd rather just get things right. I've never had problems setting up a tent before, but I got a new MSR Hubba NX 1 person tent for my backpacking trips, however something doesn't seem right when I go to set it up - almost as if the pole is too long for the tent. I ordered one off of Moosejaw, went to set it up following the instructions and when I went to connect the cross pole, it snapped right in the middle. I figured this must've been a manufacturing flaw, so I got a second one and went to try and set it up, but still the cross pole seem significantly longer than necessary. I still have a good 8 or 9 inches from the end of the pole and the grommet where it attaches. Additionally, the frame itself seems too high when I have the four corners of the tent all set. The clips that run along the top of the tent closest to the end don't seem to reach the pole properly.
Does anyone have any experience with this tent who could provide me with some advice? Is there a trick to the set up? Have there been accounts of improper manufacturing? Am I just being an idiot?
Thanks and cheers!

Looks like the cross pole is arched up over the main frame. All of the poles are meant to be well above the tent, with it hanging by the clips. This is what keeps the rain fly off the walls.

I double checked and made sure the cross pole was under the gram and that the natural curves of the cross pole were positioned in the downward direction.

Ask them (MSR) for the proper dimensions for the various pole sections. Maybe you have an off set.
ETA: or as Franco suggests, a mismatched pole set? When assembling a package it could happen.

Can you post a photo of your inner with the pole in place ? (it is possible that you have the NX not NX 1 pole...)
