I generally keep my snacks separate, but there are a couple of combinations I like:
Peanuts, M&M's, Trader Joe's Jumbo Raisin Medley (better with dark chocolate!)
Peanuts and Cheez-It crackers
My favorite commercial mix is Whole Foods Politically Incorrect Mix (peanuts, sesame sticks, a couple of different rice crackers, wasabi peas)

I LOVE shrimp chips! (though here they're 'prawn crisps') Shrimp chips make me want to be sick. Nor can I in any way convince myself that those dried seaweed snacks TJs sells are actually food. For the record, on our recent trip, Eldest Son took bags of sesame sticks, goldfish, and jerky, as well as his usual assortment of candy hoarded since Halloween. Also dried fruit, of which he would have happily eaten a lot more.

I'm not sure they're actually food, either. ...Well, wikipedia says they're mostly tapioca starch.

Peanut M&Ms and add cashews to the bag. Done. Protein + chocolate. What more do you need? If I want more salt, I'll eat Pringles. Their round box fits nicely in a water bottle pocket, and protects the chips too!
I do like those sesame sticks, and when I can find them in a mix with hot spicy tidbits, I will take them for a mix. That seems like a good trade. Water bottle with water in it/can with salty imitation potatoes in it... Haha I'm only kidding. Mostly.

That seems like a good trade. Water bottle with water in it/can with salty imitation potatoes in it... It does sound dubious. Though I happen to know that Zeke keeps his water in a water bag, so I've no doubt he was just searching for some use for those pockets. I'm sure that's the only reason he's interested in potato chips. I agree about the nature of Pringles, though. I appreciate the packability of them, but can't bring myself to eat them. They just don't taste normal.

Oddly enough, I do use a bottle, but it only takes up one pocket. I seldom actually eat Pringles, except on outings where salty snacks are required. I would carry other brands, but they don't survive as well.
Not sure where rebeccad got the idea I use a water bladder since we have hiked together.

They are just so weirdddd!
I used to love those potato sticks, but I have not seen them in awhile. They were probably not real potatoes either. Sure were salty though.

Not sure where rebeccad got the idea I use a water bladder since we have hiked together. Maybe I was mixing it up with the gravity filter and bag. I seldom actually eat Pringles, except on outings where salty snacks are required. I would carry other brands, but they don't survive as well. I have been known to carefully strap a bag of potato chips to the top of a pack

But I don't have 2 teens to eat the remaining chips. I have to force myself to choke them all down.

We did a 5-day trip in July with just 2 of us. Felt weird. When we travel without the girls, I always find myself thinking about how much they would enjoy the place we are visiting. Got to backpack with both of them in CO in June and it was wonderful to be all together on the trail.
