I was in need of a new backcountry pack for 3-4 day trips. I looked around, read reviews, and then in Backpacker Magazine I saw it... the new Marmot Graviton 48. I read the specs and reviews, loved the look, and knew it was the bag I wanted, in blue. Problem was, it's fairly new on the market and obviously quite popular. I couldn't buy one for 3 months. My local stores didn't have it. Online outfitters were always sold out. I even searched abroad (Canada and Europe) and none were available for sale. It was the first thing I've wanted and couldn't find on Ebay. So I emailed Marmot, expressed my interest in the pack and my concern that it's constantly sold out, and asked when more will be available. Two days later I found one for sale online and immediately bought it. While processing my purchase I noticed it was the last one they had in stock. Wow. The pack arrived Monday afternoon and I absolutely love it. I put it on immediately and wore it for a little while. It fits me perfectly. This weekend I'll be loading it up and taking it on a day hike to start breaking it in and get used to it. I also finally got a response from Marmot about their next batch in stock. Not until the end of December. What are your thoughts on this pack? The price wasn't bad ($179). My favorite feature is the full accessibility to my gear inside. I will be putting this pack to the test in the Grand Canyon soon. marmot.com/products/details/graviton-48?mkwid=sWZ2F7BOd_dm|pcrid|116803534600|pkw|marmot%20graviton%2048|product||pmt|e&gclid=CLnlrM_J7c0CFU1rfgodyxoNZA&utm_expid=1002275-6.Hbt6eBQwRHOSW1HmvRMouA.0&utm_referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2F

Personal choices. If it fits you well after a long day on the trail without causing any rubbing / chafing, then I'd say you found a good pack. I feel the same way about my ULA Circuit.
Personally, I dislike zippers on my pack. I don't like side pockets except for water bottles. I want a sack to load up my gear and not be wondering where I put something.

What Zeke said about it fitting properly.
Personally I'd not go for the pack given the zipper across the bottom. My concern would be it failing and the pack not being able to contain my gear.

I've never saw a pack with an access zipper burst open and dump gear...I'm sure a little thread or duct tape would get you home just fine if it did, but generally those zippers are pretty burly. I've never had an issue with them.

I agree with dirthurts. Never had a zipper fail me, even on my expedition pack.

I have an REI Outlook (large daypack/single night size) that has a u-shaped zipper like that. Had it for about 10 years and used it mostly for work carrying a laptop, power supply, and cables. Never had a failure. The metal roughed up the inside a bit, but nothing structurally wrong. The only drawback to the zipper shape was having to lay it straps down on the flightline while I got out whichever things I needed. Not an issue for backpacking, but sometimes that meant wearing wet/dirty straps on the way back to the hangar (still not a big deal.)
Marmot should hold up as well as the REI has. Good call on the blue. lol

I've never had an issue with them. I've seen several major failures at zipper seams. Usually duct tape can keep it going for a while, but it can take a lot. I don't worry a whole about zippers, but I'd rather avoid them.
