Greetings backpackers. Last year I made my first trip to Glacier and did a 73 mile figure 8 loop that started at Chief Mt. Customs, up (then back down) to Slide Lake. Then across the plateau and down to the Belly River. Past Cosley and Glenn Lakes. Up Stoney Indian Pass then back down to Waterton Valley trail. Up to 50 Mountain. Then across the Highline trail to Granite Park. Down to Many Glacier, through the ptarmigan tunnel. Down to Elizabeth Lake. Back through the Belly River area and back to the Lee Ridge TH.
This year my son has a job there for the summer. So, it was easy for me to convince my wife that we should "go visit him". She doesn't mind camping and enjoys day hiking. But won't backpack with me in AK, GYE or Glacier because of her fear of brown bears. So we will plan to camp at Swift Current or down at Lake McDonald.
While we are there we hope to do some day hiking. What are some "must do" hikes? What are some of your favorites there? I'm thinking about trying to get a spot at the chalet in Granite Park and hike up to Swift Current pass, but being able to stay for the night would be awesome so we could take our time. I'd also like to do something around Two Medicine.
Thanks in advance for your input.
Side note: I still call the Tetons my home away from home.

If you put your game balls on you could attempt the Gunsight Pass and/or Dawson-Pitamakin Pass hikes. Might be longer than what you want to do at about 18 miles +/- but half is downhill. Down at Two Med there's the Scenic point hike. Also Logan Pass over the GRN then down to the Loop. Make sure to hike up the spur trail to the Glacier overlook . Grinnell Glacier is another good dashiki. BTW, if you can snag a room at GRN you'd be one lucky SOB.
Take your wife up to Polebridge for some cool vibes because your chances of getting a room at the chalet are about nil

Figured if I threw you a bone you'd show up here....I'm kidding.
If I recall the chalet at Granite park is only booked at a rate of 50% in advance leaving the other 2 or 3 permits 1st come first serve?? I'm gonna try.
My son works at St. Mary. So I'll likely stay on the East side of the park.
Guess I could have contacted you direct! Sorry I can't make the BT trip this year. I still have to squeeze in a Sawtooth and Teton trip. I'll hit you up on that social network for details. Thanks.

You're confused and thinking of the BC campground. The chalets book almost a year in advance if memory serves
