I've been trying out boots and insoles over the last couple of months and purchased a pair of superfeet green after having a REI person look at my feet and arch. (Strong but low arch).
After a month of wearing the green superfeet in various boots, I couldn't help but feel as if the bulk of the arch support was to far back towards the heel. As if there was a gap of support between my arch and to the ball of my feet. I googled that problem and found that the Spenco arch supports seemed to rectify this problem. I ordered a pair of Spenco Total Support Max for about half the price of Superfeet and was pleasantly surprised to find that they seem to support my foot much better as a whole.
I figured I'd share just incase anyone else is having the same issue.

Another example of fit over anything else.

Thanks, I was looking at insoles the other day, now I'll try Spenco. I have the same problem often, re: arch support too far back and that gets to be painful in a hurry.

I'm pretty sure that's intentional and mentioned in Superfeet's info somewhere. IIRC, you want the support toward the heel a bit to discourage the foot from sliding forward and because you don't want pressure up under the tender center part of your arch. Or something like that. Whether I'm remembering that right or not, I know I like the rearward support in Superfeet. To each his own.

Or something like that. Whether I'm remembering that right or not, I know I like the rearward support in Superfeet They call it "Rearfoot Support". I don't know why it's not as comfortable to me as I would hope but so far I prefer the Spenco. I need to put some miles on the Spenco though but as of now, much better for me. Yeah, to each his/her own.

to be accurate, my feet worked well with Superfeet, where the Spencos caused immediate and bad pain. YFMV (your feet may vary).

I wore out a couple pair of Superfeet when I felt I had no choice, but never really liked them because they were hard and had support in the wrong place. Spencos can be bulky and don't fit in all shoes.
I think Sole footbeds have the most natural support and come with varying amounts of cush.

I think Sole footbeds have the most natural support... What's natural for one foot may not be for another. Arguing which insole is shaped best is like arguing whether size 9 or 12 is best.

I have been wearing super feet for many years. I spoke to a rep about fit and he told me it's more important to buy the insole that matches to your arch rather then the size. So buying in store is your best bet. He told me to start at my shoe size and work my way up until the arch meets my arch then trim off the extra material to fit in the boot.
