Hi Guys, I love photography and have decided to increase my hiking and backpacking trips so that I can take pictures of nature. I am looking for some suggestions of places to visit in the mid-Atlantic region especially around DC. I've googled this topic but the search results did not seem relevant.

Pretty much anywhere Gali hikes, but if you post the pictures here you would have a tough standard to match up to.Seriously, besides some of those hikes in WVA,or even along the Potomac, you might also look at the Cold Mtn/Mt Pleasant circuits in the GWNF in Va. While the Cold Mtn bald accessed from Rt 60 was one of my favorite backpacking destinations when I lived in Central Va., I always thought the Mt Pleasant loop was a little boring being short, moderate and mostly forested. But, it gets you up high and from some of the magnificent photos I have seen taken from the several rock outcrop locations and people raving about those views it is something you might want to look at.Those loops can be done as a moderate figure eight starting at CowCamp Gap,or made more challenging by starting on the AT down along Rt 60 and hiking up to these areas. midatlantichikes.com/mountpleasant.htmETA Note at the time I lived in the Blue Ridge surrounded by mountains in such a photogenic setting that I tended to take the views somewhat for granted when backpacking(similar to the way thru hikers start doing). These days living in Fl, I more appreciate the scenic photos and can more understand why people living in the city would want to visit the most scenic locations.

How about Shenandoah National Park? Plenty of stuff there for you to photograph.

Yea,SNP has a lot of photo opportunities some remote but many subject to over crowding and thus with camping restrictions.A good strategy might be to plan a more remote route where,if backpacking, you could time it to drop in to the more popular scenic areas for sunrise/sunset photos.
