Hi all! I'm so glad to have found such a great community of backpackers! What led me here is a bit of a bummer, tho. This weekend I was rafting and ended up with an intercostal muscle strain (pulled muscle in my rib cage) from an over exuberant paddle trying to prevent my daughter from ending up in the river.
My husband and I are supposed to hike the Maroon Bells 4 Four Pass loop in CO starting this Saturday, July 2nd. I'm in some pain but can manage. However, I'm wondering if anyone knows if a 26 mile hike carrying a 20 lb pack is a terrible idea. Has anyone been in the same boat? What did you do?
Thanks so very much for any and all advice!

First, welcome to the forum!
Best way to determine if it will bother you... strap on a 20 lb pack and walk a few miles at a local park and see how it feels. That said, I'd be willing to bet that it will feel fine, maybe except for really deep breaths. I just don't see that muscle coming into play much during hiking.
Have fun!

I agree. If you feel OK after a modest test, you're probably good to go, especially after a few more days of recovery. Getting your pack on may be the hardest part.

Thanks for the feedback! Great idea to test out carrying a pack and love that you all think I can make it. Yay!
