I'm planning for a 12 days trip to Alaska around mid August. Plan to go around the national parks for the most part and also other scenic routes? Anyone else having similar plans? Would be down for hiking, nature trails and canoeing...

Not interested myself but AK is a big state. It might help if you can be more specific about locations you intend to visit and how you intend to get around.

At Anchorage, don't miss the Alaska Museum and the walk from down town that takes you from the sun to Pluto at the 'speed of light' 3mph walking.
North on road to Fair Banks stop at
Denali of course. Park your car at the visitor center, take the bus as far as the road is open, stop at ranger station for a bear talk and go as far as you want. No permit required and no fishing license. June was good weather, August is sort of the end of the end of Summer. Check on weather and road conditions.
There is so much to do at Wrangell - St Elias National Park you could spend a life time on trails.
The car trip from there to Valdez is beautiful.
Hatcher Pass and the mine gets you to tundra quickly. On way to Denali.
Peruse down this forum for canoe trips into Glacer Bay.
Best to fly up and not take cruise.

Be prepared for weather. This is our rainy/flooding year. I was told by a geologist in Denali last week if we're lucky we have 3 weeks left of summer then about 3 days of fall..LOL I live just North of Denali and weather is dropping pretty quick here.
