If one would type in a @ in front of a poster's name, it makes it blue, as in zeke . I am wondering if that actually brings that thread to the attention of the tagged?
Clarification: "type in a @ in front of a poster's name" is not exactly clear. Everyone has a registration name, and most never modify that. It is always all one word, lower case letters, period! But everyone has the option of adding a DISPLAY name in their Profile, and that is what allows capped letters or two word names. Note that tagging ONLY works on registered names Roll over a name above an avatar and it displays the tagging name, or open the person's Profile to see it there.

It shows up in notifications that you've been tagged.

t shows up in notifications Okay, I'm curious. In fact on a Desktop computer, the top banner links show Profile in the line, but within the Profile, see Notifications. So yes. But since you are a mobile user, I wonder if it changes for space saving? Do you use the Desktop view in mobile? The basic mobile view is quite condensed, the look of the page is very different. But look bottom-right and see a link to switch to Desktop. That puts the full line of links back in view. So you are correct, I may be missing some changes because I do not typically use mobile.

I use the mobile view, so yes, it shows up under profile. I then have to check under summary to look in notifications, which will show me tags, quotes, and likes. However, when I receive a message, that shows up under messages, and I get an email telling me I have a message. I don't have it set to receive an email when I get anything else.

Interesting. So yes, but to clarify how it works for me: when I come to the forum and see a number bubble above Profile, I just click it to open a short list of tags, likes, and in my case, any new members and when they joined! This helps me see who maybe signed it at Midnight who may be a spammer!
Once I have opened that list, if I need to look again, I have to open Profile and open Notifications again
That mention of email notification was interesting! I see too many new members who ask a question, accumulate helpful replies, but the OP simply has never come back to even read those answers, let alone say a simple thank you. I actually have taken time to send emails to several of those missing people, and--no real surprise never get a reply.
It's a longer story, but I asked Support if I could include a "Last Online" date under the avatars? Support said that repies would send an email to the member! I said no, they wouldn't have known how to opt IN for that! But you get emails? Did you opt in?
Oh, I will mention that Messages are like emails within the forum, not the same as notifications.

HA...just read this and realized that I had 24 notifications (the little bubble.) I didn't know what those were, but now I know. Quotes, likes, etc.
So I guess that it comes to whoevers attention, as long as they pay attention

Wow, that's a new record! I could suggest a review of topics in the "Learn about..." list (link right under the Trailhead Register) which may have gone unnoticed. After a recent series of new members who were plunging right in to post but in "wrong" areas, I added a new first page that they get when they complete the registration: bpbasecamp.freeforums.net/post/43449/thread Lots of tricks to easily miss.

I think that someone would realize if they've been tagged:

Nope, not seeing it in Notifications at all. Not in Profile either. Never noticed being Tagged in any thread. That is what prompted this question.

So you're saying you do NOT see a white bubble (spot, circle, object) with a number in it, over the word Profile in the links under the banner? I tagged you, and the quotes also tag you. If this is missing from your screen it's a new thing to hear about.

Are folks aware that there are 2 different Notification screens? One shows the notifications that you were liked, tagged, etc. The other is accessible by a different route and allows you to establish what kinds of notifications you want get - daily, weekly, etc. I suspect it's this latter option that hasn't been filled out and that's why some people aren't seeing the little white bubbles.
Unfortunately, PrtScn and copying doesn't work so I can't show what that screen looks like.
zeke , I think that's what's happening in your case.
Steve, I think the Notification screen you're referring to is the first one that's seen; I had to locate the option to set Notifications through another route..
zeke , try this: Click Profile, then instead of clicking Notifications, click on "Edit Profile" on the right hand side, next to "Send Message". Then click "Notifications" - this is where you can select the notification frequency, etc. that you want.
The screen starts with this:
"These notification settings apply across the entire forum unless otherwise overwritten by board-specific settings.
Notification Type Forum Email"
(copying the rest is somewhat tedious but hopefully this helps).

2 different Notification screens? Okay, good point. I never think about the options available, so I slip up on that. In fact I may be mistaken but I thought the default was the simple white bubble, deeper choices were where personal options would extend the automatic bubble! So thanks for including that info. And I think maybe you also explained how some people try to quote something and the result is a botched patch of text with article, table, and div tags in it! It's amess that is hard to clean up, but it sound like PrintScreen is an operator's attempt to use a PC command. I'll have to add that caveat to the How To info for quotes!

OK, so I went back to the Edit Profile page, and sure enough I had not checked the button that notified me when I was Tagged. Thanks. Maybe this will change things now. I will tag myself and see. zeke

zeke , I never had to set my prefs to get bubbles. First it's been mentioned.

You have option to get emails or forum only notifications. I've chosen forum for everything but messages. I like to be able to respond to messages promptly.
