Am looking for lightweight waterproof efficiently packable rain pants to replace my old Sierra Designs urethane coated nylon pants that increasingly leak in really wet conditions. Not interested in any high end breathable models because they invariably weigh too much. Thus something less than 10 ounces in men's medium and less than $80. Am not the sweaty type so internal condensation is not an issue. Have pounded usual web sites including Amazon so have done my homework and might pull the trigger gambling on something. Annoyingly though few sites provide weight information probably because the more pricy breathable models invariably weigh more so retailers don't want to scare potential buyers. Also annoying is that with cheap coated nylon models, there usually isn't any information as to whether seams are taped which is of course where they are likely to fail after a couple years of use right when one is in a wet trip of course. Last year bought a prior year's North Face Venture Jacket in Sullivan Green / Nottingham Green color on Amazon heavily discounted at $69 to replace my old Marmot Precip jacket that has begun leaking. Thus far it has been excellent in wet conditions and is superbly designed. www.thenorthface.com/shop/mens-jackets-vests/mens-venture-jacket-3?variationId=682I also bought a black Helly Hansen Voss rain suit for more serious rain situations 2.5 years ago that though bomb proof for usual California winter rainy season day hiking duty or offshore Pacific trips is too bulky and heavy for my backpacking needs. Thanks for the tip, Dave. I'm heading into the mountains for several weeks and have been hesitant to get rain pants, since this is CA and you hardly ever need them. These may be worth putting in the pack.

Marmot Precip full-zip pants-13.25oz-these are the ones I've been packing. Patagonia Torrentshell-not full-zip-10oz. i also have a pair of Sierra Designs, prob newer than yours-7.5 oz, also not full zip. But I'm considering now, since I don't remember the last time I've worn my rain pants, the really cheap, lightweight, but fragile Frogg Toggs.
