Hello hikers! My co-traveller has just bailed on me and our two car system is now dead. I'm looking to do a short section hike from Kennedy Meadows to Cottonwood pass but don't have a second car to leave at the end trailhead. Anyone have any advice to get back to Kennedy? Am I hitching it?

Assuming you mean south Kennedy Meadows, yeah, you are hitching. South Kennedy Meadows is a 25 miles or so dirt road drive from the 395 and sees little traffic outside of the through hiker rush. You could catch a ride in minutes or wait for hours.
A suggestion is to do Mammoth to Tuolumne. The logistics are much easier. Or just do a loop outside of Bishop, Mammoth, Lone Pine or Big Pine. They are all great areas. No shuttling/mass transit required.
