Looking to head up to Baxter State Park in mid-August. Me and a crew of four are looking for a 4 to 5 night trip that is either a loop. We want to climb Katahdin via Knifes edge near the end of the trip but want to experience some of the other of the park's geography for the first portion of the trip. Anyone have any suggestions?

You may have hiked this already but multiday loops can be tricky because camping sites are permitted and fill up very early. A good loop that uses the Knife Edge is starting at Roaring Brook. Hike Helon Taylor to Katahdin via Knife Edge, continuing to Hamlin (2nd Highest Peak in Maine) into the Northwest Basin which has a shelter( Must be reserved ahead of time) Then onto Russell Brook, which has camping area (reservations again) Then back to Roaring Brook. 3 days 20ish miles. You could add an extra day in the beginning by going to Chimney Pond first night then up Dudley Tr to Knife Edge. Or you can add an easy day at the end and camp at Roaring Brook and climb South Turner on the last day.. Again check ahead about camping because there is no camping in Baxter away from listed sites. If you already did this trip, I'd be curious to your route.

Looking to do the same as the OP. 5 nights in Baxter in the fall. 2 people. I'd prefer to park the car and not start it until we leave. Prefer the most remote hikes and camps in Baxter. Difficulty schmifficulty. Have heard the northern part of the park is less crowded. Any input is appreciated. Cheers!
