Can anyone suggest a good comprehensive trail map for Great Basin National Park? Or do people usually use USGS quads?
Thanks, Steve

We are frequent hikers at GBNP. There really isn't that many trails. We have all the USGS 40 Minute topo's and use them. The only guide books we are aware of our: Hiking and Climbing in the Great Basin National Park by Michael Kelsey and A Falcon Guide Hiking Nevada by Bruce Grubbs. The Kelsey guide is much more comprehensive.

I will be going to the GBNP sometime this year. My choices are sometime in August, September or October. Wheeler peak is on my list of hikes.
Could you recommend one month over another?
Thanks in advance!

We usually hike in October during Utah hunting season because it's safe. No hunting in the park. Often there is a very light snow cover and 150 plus mile views on a clear day. July and early August might be a bit warm at lower elevations.

July and early August might be a bit warm at lower elevations. But nice atop Wheeler Peak We finally climbed the peak last year, in mid-June. That was a cool, windy day, but snow was not an issue (there were a couple of patches, but nothing problematic. However, that was a drought year). I love that area. Have fun!
