Hi. New to this site. I'm a physically fit 55 yo female and not new to hiking and camping but haven't backpacked overnight. Looking for a hike this August where we can drop off a car and either do a 2 nighter loop or stage a second car at the end. Would love to have the first night be at a campground so to enjoy a campfire the night before (I believe fires are not allowed at campsites, shelters, etc, is that right?) but not mandatory. There are many 4000 footers which sound great but not for the first time carrying everything. I'm thinking a 5-8 mile/day moderate difficulty hike with some scenery. Thanks for all suggestions as I begin a new chapter in my life.

Welcome!
Unfortunately, I won't be of much assistance, since I'm only familiar with the 4k peaks. But maybe you could make a loop hike off the AT somewhere outside of the Franconia or Presidential ranges?

I'm sure there are multiple loop hikes to meet your specifications in the Pemigewasset Wilderness. The main trail is on a former railroad bed and you should be able to select a hike with modest elevation gain and great scenery. Good Luck!
