Hi All,
I'm in Idaho now (late May) and have the opportunity to head out for a 5 day backpacking trip. Any recommendations for low-elevation or otherwise snow-free destinations? I've read that River of No Return has some low elevation yet awesome routes but I can't find any specific details.
Thanks

How about Hell's Canyon? The only caveat is that the Idaho side (7 sisters) isn't necessarily low or snow-free. But the Oregon side should be.

Cool. Any recommendations for specific routes? Looking for a 4-5 day loop.
Thanks

I too am looking for a route there. The Wallowa-Whitman NF map I have isn't sufficient to map out a good route, unfortunately. But I do know that it's lower in elevation and warmer this time of year

Selway River trail, Snake River Trail, Middle Fork Salmon River not a loop but no snow in June.
Seven Devils Loop Trail, Chamberlain Basin Loop Trail, and the Central Lemhi Range Loop are doable in June with little to no snow.

Just thought I'd post an update, for anyone else interested. I ended up hiking Hells Canyon. According to the rangers in Riggins the Seven Devils loop was snowed over so I hiked the Snake river trail, up and back (4 days total). It was a pretty solid trek with some beautiful views but probably not the best time of year. While for most of Idaho early June is too early, for Hells Canyon it's actually too late -- It got pretty miserably hot at times . Still, it was awesome just to be out there and I'll definitely try and make it back to Seven Devils some time. Thanks for the recommendation.

I hiked the Snake river trail, up and back (4 days total). So that's the Idaho side, right? Were there any trail intersections along the way or is it a pure out-and-back for anyone who goes there?

Snake River trail #102 is on the Idaho side ( There is another trail on the Oregon side but I'm not familiar with it).
Consider jet boating upstream to Granite creek and hiking back to Upper Pittsburg Landing.
I was just there over Memorial Day Weekend but didn't use the jet boat option.
