No one has said 'a bandanna'. I wonder why? I rely on the alcohol in my flask of single malt to kill all the little critters. It seems to work on brain cells.

Recently purchased a Sawyer system...slightly stripped down version - just one, 3 liter, dirty-water Platy, drip filter, filling up 1 liter (holstered) water bottles. My hiking buddy shared his similar setup for a two month Sierra season and 3 weeks Sawtooths afterwards. Really like the camp convenience, not having to "pump", bending down among the mosquitoes... Does require back-flushing occasionally - (every 3 days or so) ... reasonable flow rate...5 oz and packs small...no work required, That being said, for the last 20 - 30 years Sierra, generally don't bother filtering my water at all. When up over 8,000 feet high, off trail...drink smart...never a problem...yet...(but only 2,500+ backpacking nights so far... might just be lucky?)
