Just started to watch the show. Interesting premise, 10 people are dropped on Vancouver Island with equipment all alone. Each person has cameras to record themselves and a help/get me out of here beacon. The person who stays the longest, wins $500,000.
They are given some basic equipment and clothing and they get to choose 10 items from a list. The lists are available on the History channel web site.
Anyone else watching?

The wife and I watch. We like to debate what items we'd bring.
In Season 1, about 7 of the contestants had left in the first week. It was pathetic. The final 2-3 were hardy souls, though.
In this Season, I like how the first contestant dropped out within 5 hours... after seeing bear poop. Of course, back home he had been boasting about how he'd wrestle bears to submission. I was disappointed that Tracy dropped out... I thought she'd go far.

I was disappointed that Tracy dropped out... I thought she'd go far. Me, too. I have watched this show from the beginning and I find it fascinating. The psychology of the isolation along with other factors such as weather, the animals, lack of food etc. is really interesting to me.

I grew up with Lucas from season 1. Very interesting guy. He's been doing stuff like that since he was a kid. Made a bow one year, shot a deer. Made pants from the leather. Wearing those pants, using the bow, shoots another deer. That's my cool story.
I think they have some pretty smart people on there now. Guy that rigged up a foot pedal faucet, that's pretty ingenious.

Is this the show where they spend about half of each episode doing blair witch style nighttime bear encounters?

Here are the items I would choose. My first go, I got down to 16 items. My final 10 selections are in bold. I really, really wanted that extra tarp though. I assumed I had to pick at least one item from each category. If not, I'd replace the bar soap with the extra tarp. I also would have to take a close inspection of the climbing rope vs parachord.
Shelter
12×12 ground cloth/tarp (grommets approved) 550 parachord – 20m 1 ax
Bedding
1 multi-seasonal sleeping bag that fits within provided backpack 1 bivy bag (Gore-Tex sleeping bag cover)
Cooking
1 large (no more than 2 quart) pot, includes lid 1 flint or ferro rod set 1 bear canister
Hygiene
1 bar soap
Hunting
1 300-yard roll of nylon single filament fishing line and 25 assorted hooks (No lures) 1 small gauge gill net (8 m x 2 m OR 1.5 m deep x 3.6 m long and 2” [50 mm] mesh)
Food
5 lbs of dried pulses/legumes/lentils mix (starch and carbs) 5 lbs of pemmican (traditional trail food made from fat and proteins)
Tools
1 hunting knife 1 Leatherman multi-tool 1 sharpening stone
