jmitch, 4th photo: what kind of structure underneath the waterfall creates the fascinating staggered pattern? It's stunning; reminds me of a beautifully crafted piece of art, weaving, or needlework. The paving around the pool is lovely as well - quite artistic and certainly unlike most dams I've seen.

It's just the slope of rocks along the face of the dam. It is a beautiful dam, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s.
