Can anyone verify that at-large camping is available at the end of the Clear Creek Trail in the Grand Canyon (with permit of course) and that there's reasonably reliable water there?
Any other thoughts or musings about the Clear Creek Trail or the campsite? Thanks, Steve

Yes, there are about a half-dozen nice campsites there and a composting toilet. Clear Creek is very reliable. It is one of my favorite winter hikes: you are in the bright sunshine along the entire trail. Miserable in the summer - no shade.
You can hike down to the Colorado River from there, though there's a steep dropoff towards the end. Never done that myself.
There are some great dayhikes up the creek including some nice indian cliff dwellings.
Dispersed camping starts about 2 miles up the trail at Sumner Wash. If you are in reasonable shape you can hike to that spot your first day without a permit for Bright Angel. There are some OK campsites at Sumner, but no water. Load up with water at BA.
