I haven't found anyplace where I can compare these two boots. My REI rep is very enthusiastic about the Salomon, but the Vasque looks similar and is very intriguing. I also like Vibram, whatever Salomon says about their Contagrip material.
Does anyone have direct experience with both boots? Failing that, does anyone have direct experience with the Vasque Inhaler II?
Thanks-
Bob

Well, I ended up getting both the Inhaler II GTX and the Ultra X Mid 2. They're similar in many ways, but I selected the Vasque Inhaler.
It's about 5 ounces less per shoe (1 pound vs 1 pound 5), has a Vibram sole, and feels just a bit more 'firm' in support at the top. I wore the boots most of yesterday (picked up my new trail buddy from the animal shelter... I was 'just looking' :-) ) and they felt fine. Tomorrow will be a light hike with pup along.
Others might pick differently, but I'm glad that I did an A-B comparison before choosing.

I like them quite a bit so far, but they've only been on short day hikes at this point. I'm going to try them out on a long BP trip in Colorado this summer. This is my number one concern: under foot protection on boulders, etc.
