make portion control easy. What is this portion control you speak of?
If you want to lighten the load, carry weed. Better buzz, and lighter.

What is this portion control you speak of? THIS. I had to laugh my ask off last weekend. I was car camping one night with a co-irker who said she forgot alcohol. I was dumbfounded, and shared my mini-bar.

Fireball is great to bring on the trail, it will warm you up on a cold night and since it's flavored no need for a mixer.

It's always in my ski pack and I love it for cold weather camping! I can also mix it with powdered hot cider mix and it's a great warmer upper! Save

Um... the best way to transport alcohol while not increasing your pack weight is to hide it in your partner's pack when he isn't looking.

Straight Beefeater. It doubles as a disinfectant and deodorant, so that justifies the weight completely. On shorter trips, lemon lime flavored water enhancer drops, treated water, and tequila.

Back in the day we wanted ultimate alcohol efficiency. We would carry grain alcohol and diet drink mix then use local water to make the evening cocktails. The right drink mix and it can be pretty tasty. But maybe a drink that can also be used as a stove fuel isn't a good idea.

After a harsh day fishing, usually off-trail and at altitude Sierra, Mike (my 10-year hiking buddy and ex-backcountry ranger SEKI) has instilled a tradition, now a ritual for both of us...the daily cocktail hour. Sometime around 6 PM, he appears from somewhere, other side of the lake...we normally fish alone. FYI, each of us is responsible for their own fish dinner contribution...something trout in the 12 - 14" range - cleaned...big enough. Meeting up, back at camp now, we then have our own assigned duties - his as bar-tender/hors d'oeuvres prep; mine as cook...calls me Hop Sing.
Last year, on our 17-day Sawtooth adventure, Mike found/ bought some Jamaican 160 proof, spiced pineapple rum...carried 1 1/2 liters split between two Platys. The recipe: 3 - 4 oz of rum, add water and Crystal lite (Margarita, mojito, or lemonade)...all into a 1-liter bottle...mix well. Pour into cups over clean snow, (even late summer snow patches abound above 10,000 ft,)...Trail Daiquiris! BTW, being civilized, we also carry a variety of good cheeses...Asiago, Port-Salut, aged Gouda, etc...maybe a few Wasabi peas completes the day's canapes. After a few libations and a few cubes of cheese, my job kicks in - do dinner, (cook up the fish) and usually some fresh pasta too... Mike cannot cook for chit.
