OK, so it's not exactly "cooking". I enjoy a bit of a nip at the end of the day on the trail, do you? What are your favorite recipes for enjoying a drink in the backcountry without lugging a ton of stuff?

A can of Ginger Beer, to split between friends and a flask of quality spiced rum (called a dark and stormy). Should have a slice of lime in it, but it doesn't always happen.

I wonder if there's a lightweight way to replicate this (I like the idea), like bringing a piece of ginger. It wouldn't be bubbly though. |

Yep, a Caribbean version since spiced rum instead of vodka. Also no need for a copper cup. Not sure if fresh ginger could be used. I can of ginger beer makes 3 drinks.

I bring airplane bottles of vodka, they are plastic and light and make portion control easy. Then I mix with Mio or other water flavorings. Works great!

The recipe has evolved since I first came up with it. Now it's Cuervo gold, lemon-lime gatorade and a stick of sugar-free lemonade. Making a quart of this is the best way I know of to make a few people relax. That sounds beautiful. Vodka infused gummy bears go well after a long bike ride (I'm newish to hiking). |

Gotta admit I'm a wimp when it comes to alcohol. I skip it when backpacking, but if I did want a buzz, about 1/10th of a normal serving would probably do the job.

As long as you carry it. I prefer to use that weight/space to carry chocolate. |

I am a lightweight and I don't like the sluggish feeling in the morning when I need to be active. My son bought me a flask one year for mother's day and I thanked him, but thought, what the hell and I'm gonna do with this? I don't drink on the trail! LOL!  |

A flask of a nice cognac does wonders to almost anything/body you find along the way. It's the flavor not the alcohol.
rebecca you might enjoy just a slip of it in a hot dark chocolate drink.

I used to do that. Between my husband not drinking and me going several years without an alcohol at all years ago (due to having babies), I stopped bothering. |
