Hey There, I'm Jake. I hail from the mystical land of Southern Ontario. Got out canoe camping for the first time last year and was mystified by the experience of it - so I'm here looking to learn the ropes as best I can to get myself set up and away on some trails! Didn't grow up with a lot of these skills so I'm stoked to learn! I've applied to a year-long Camp Apprenticeship program out in Manitoba where I hope to really develop these skills. In the meanwhile I'm planning on lurking around sites like this to learn Canada is a great place to be for these types of adventures though, I've got to say. Cheers guys

Dude includes a pic of a beer in his very first post. I think he'll fit right in. Probably don't even need to have him answer the survey.
Welcome, Mr. Sloth.

I legitimately wanted to ask in my intro "so how do you guys get boose with you when you're hiking" but I thought I'd try to seem like a straight-edge guy for at least 1 post hahahaha

I legitimately wanted to ask in my intro "so how do you guys get boose with you when you're hiking" Luckily, you can plan ahead and do a couple of caches with "emergency" supplies where a road might intersect the trail. Works for me. Welcome, by the way.

Welcome!
As for the question you really wanted to ask, those who want a drink usually carry the concentrated sorts.

Welcome Jake, I'm not much of a drinker these days so I can't offer much advice in that department.

We only backpack during Lent. One reason I'm an Episcopalian. There are many things we're willing to give up for Lent, alcohol not being one of them. As for the question you really wanted to ask, those who want a drink usually carry the concentrated sorts. Definitely. Perhaps my best "gear" find of the past year was 120 proof Knob Creek bourbon, which can be diluted to taste in camp. Not cheap, but saves a lot of weight in your pack. Welcome, Jake, glad you found us.

I'm probably missing a few, but I know we've got a hiking tiger, a lame beaver, a newt, and now a sloth. Quite the menagerie.
As for alcohol on the trail, there's dehydrated water if you want to save weight, space, and mix your own drinks.

I thought Ontario was near LA?
Welcome home man, you're already on the good side of some great people. Stay thirsty.
